Singl-end Cafe & Bakehouse, Glasgow

Over the Easter holidays I wanted to ‘do brunch’ more often. Brunch for some reason has become really fashionable to me and I just enjoy the experience of eating a late breakfast, especially if I don’t have to cook it myself.

Singl-end is a bake house which can be found just off Charing Cross (on the city centre side) and images of their food has been all over Instagram. I have been taunted with images of their amazing food for weeks. You know that way you know it’s amazing purely from the photo? That’s how I felt about Singl-end, but I was slightly worried I’d set myself up for disappointment.  I was absolutely desperate to arrive and get my gums around their spicy baked eggs. But also, the cakes. Exhibit A:

Everything just looks so perfect and colourful and delicious. I stood for a fair amount of time just enjoying the scenery. I have to comment on the range in terms of ‘free from’ ingredients.  Gluten and dairy free as well as vegan options are aplenty!

I started with some light refreshments. By light, I mean a powerful smoothie which probably has boosted my immune system and prevented Scurvy for life. It was pretty filling too, which I kinda regretted given my choice of main…

Spicy Baked Eggs

This stunning dish is available meat free and also gluten free . The eggs oven baked in a casserole of homemade pork and fennel sausage, cannellini beans, tomato and chilli and is served with your choice of bread – I opted for the focaccia.  This was absolutely stunning to look at and mouthwateringly delicious to eat. Pam made a fairly sensible suggestion that it would serve two people but I shooshed her. I ain’t sharing this with nobody. The sausages were lovely but a little too much fennel for my liking – not too much that I didn’t like them, but the flavour was too pronounced for me. The focaccia was like no other focaccia I’ve ever eaten as it was so doughy – I absolutely loved it. The whole dish was very wholesome and filling – I was sorted for the rest of the day!

Singl-end absolutely is worthy of the hype – I can’t wait to go back!
